The National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) Cellphone Repair Programme graduation kicked off in Gqeberha this morning. Thirty graduands graduated from the comprehensive three-month mentorship and coaching programme.
The 30 graduates have qualified as cellphone repair technicians! The NEMISA programme is run through its CoLabs based at the Walter Sisulu University and Vaal University of Technology.
The purpose of the cell phone repairs programme, which includes an intensive face-to-face 10-day training module, is to prepare learners to operate as qualified Cell phone Repairers, with the ability to:
• Troubleshoot
• Repair and,
• Maintain various types of cell phone models in rural and urban residential areas.
• Understand broader competencies for work readiness and entrepreneurial abilities.
The Cellphone Repair programme was first implemented in the Buffalo City Metro as a pilot for the province. It has since penetrated more communities in the province including the OR Tambo District Municipality. To date, 109 beneficiaries have graduated in the province and now operate registered businesses.
The programme is rolled out in partnership with the Eastern Cape Development Corporation and Human Capital Learning Solutions.
